Congregation Beth Jacob on Sept. 7 held its third annual kosher barbecue cook-off, which included 10 booths.

Four judges, including Jewish Times Associate Publisher Jeff Rosenblum, Community Editor Fran Memberg and JT columnist Scott Sherris, had the honor of judging alongside Marc Farris of BBQTV and the National BBQ Association.

The overall winner this year was Steve Cohen of Cohen's Services and Catering, and other awards were given in categories of ribs, chicken and brisket.

Other contestants included Boy Scout Troop 5953, which is comprised of Orthodox young men; Torah Day School, Temima and the "rabbi's grill."

Sybil Goldstein of Beth Jacob said the Georgia State Jewish Law Students Association was also instrumental in helping with the cook-off.

The $10 fee allowed each person 10 bracelet pull-off tabs redeemable at each table for a sample of kosher BBQ offerings. Some tables had spicy sauce, others sweet and smoky and one group even had teriyaki sauce.
