Richard Louis Kaufman of Atlanta, 55, passed away on May 3, 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Kaufman; his mother, Shirlye Kaufman Birnbrey and her husband Henry; children, Michelle and David Vizurraga, Lauren Kaufman and Garrett Kaufman; stepchildren, Jennifer Babbit Bodner and husband Steven and Betsy Babbit Perkel and husband Andy. He also had grandchilden, Eve and Rennix Vizurraga, Riley Bodner and Jackson Perkel; brothers- and sisters-in-law Jeff and Alison Kaufman, Mark and Nancy Kaufman; and sister and brother-in-law Karen and Craig Senft.
He was a successful businessman and sold his company, Kaufman Supply, in 1998. He was a generous philanthropist who was the Campaign Chair and an executive committee member for the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, a board member for The Davis Academy, a supporter of the Greenfield Hebrew Academy, the Marcus Jewish Community Center and many other local and national organizations.
Richard has a huge circle of family and friends and was always surrounded by his community. He was an avid golfer, a former football player at the University of Alabama, a wonderful family man and loved and adored by everyone he met. Untold people were touched by his generosity.
The funeral will be held at Congregation Shearith Israel on May 4 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta or the Greenfield Hebrew Academy.
