Jewish Atlanta icon passes

Erwin Zaban of Atlanta passed away on Tues., July 6 at his home. He was born on Aug. 17, 1921 in Atlanta. The son of the late Mandle and Sara Feidelson Zaban, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Dinerman.

He began his business career at only 15 years of age when he worked alongside his parents to build Zep Manufacturing Company. Zep later merged with National Linen and became National Service Industries, a Fortune 500 Company. Known for his leadership skills, he was highly regarded in the business and philanthropic communities.

Mr. Zaban is survived by his wife Judy and their children, Carol and Dr. Larry Cooper, Laura and Marshall Dinerman, Sara and Robert Franco; and also by their grandchildren, Cathy and Michael Tierney of Aspen, Colo., Kevin Cooper, Jonathan and Andi Cooper, Drs. Amanda and Chuck Cohn, Michael and Kim Dinerman, Jennie and Alex Medeiros, Dr. Janine Franco and Alan Pinstein, Dena and Eli Franco, all of Atlanta; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at The Temple at 2:30 on July 7.  A private interment followed.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marcus Jewish Community Center, Wiliam Breman Jewish Home, the Zaban Couples Center or a charity of your choice.
