Richard Miron is long past his days as a star of Suessical the Musical and has since carved a path in pop music with his debut CD.
Miron's Take the Ride CD features a flexible vocal ability, and, at only 18 and about to start his freshman year at Yale, he is showing his talent as a singer and songwriter.
One of the best songs on the 10-track CD is Let it Go, an upbeat song about moving forward in life or a relationship, but the best part is the fancy piano that rings crystal clear. It's a song that after one listen reels you in and you find yourself looking for the repeat button on your CD player.
Much of the superior quality of this independent artist is the production by Atlanta resident Michael Levine. This is no surprise since Levine's own CDs and performances are flawless - his ability and keen skills turn out a perfect product.
Other tracks on the CD include Passenger Seat and The Car which are fun and musically solid, especially the piano tracks. Piano can either distract from a great song if not done right, or it can make a good song great. Billy Joel is a perfect example, and after seeing Miron perform recently at open mic night at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, it was apparent that he, like Billy Joel, has a certain stage presence and style that's unique and focused on not only great lyrics but solid piano to back it.
One truly moving track is the final song which was written for friend and fellow Walton High School friend Phillip Silverman who died a year ago in a car crash. Silverman was a member of Etz Chaim synagogue, and Miron was moved to write the song in his memory.
The only drawback during a first listen to the CD was flashbacks of past music by child prodigy musicians and performers, and I hope that this CD wasn't an unwanted push for stardom at the expense of a teenager's youth. But the words are beyond his years, and the manner in which Miron sings the songs is a true testament to self-confidence in his musical career that is sure to take off either on the independent circuit for now or with a future record deal.
You can buy the CD on iTunes, CD Baby, or at Borders bookstore in East Cobb. If you can't find it at your local music shop, encourage them to stock it.
Miron will be performing at the Coffee Park on Roswell Road in Marietta Friday at 8 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Phillip Michael Silverman Foundation.
If you want to catch him live with his band and can't make it to Coffee Park, he will be playing at Wills Park in Alpharetta in August for the Courtney Doyle Scholarship Fund. Check out his Web site www.richardmiron.com for more information and that will take you straight to his myspace page where you can keep up on Miron, preview a few songs and learn more about him.
